Job Description

Muskingum University invites applications for a Strength and Conditioning Coach. This position is responsible for the development, implementation, and supervision of strength and conditioning programs for Muskingum University’s 25 athletic teams. The Strength and Conditioning Coach will work collaboratively with team coaches and athletic training staff to promote the health, safety, and physical performance of student-athletes.

MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Design and implement comprehensive strength, speed, agility, and conditioning programs for all athletic teams.
  • Provide individualized and sport-specific training plans based on performance assessments and team needs, including in-season, off-season, and pre-season training.
  • Supervise training sessions to ensure proper technique, safety, and program effectiveness.
  • Maintain all weight room facilities and equipment, ensuring a clean, safe, and organized environment.
  • Collaborate with the athletic training staff on injury prevention, return-to-play protocols, and the rehabilitation of injured athletes.
  • Educate student-athletes on topics related to nutrition, recovery, injury prevention, and performance enhancement.
  • Supervise student workers within the strength and conditioning area.
  • Monitor and assess the progress of student-athletes, providing regular feedback and adjustments to training programs as needed.
  • Ensure compliance with all NCAA, OAC, and University policies and procedures.
  • Support the department’s commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion through programming and leadership.

REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES

  • Bachelor’s degree in Exercise Science, Kinesiology, or a related field; Master’s degree preferred.
  • CPR, AED, and First Aid certified.
  • Certified Strength and Conditioning Specialist (CSCS) required. Additional certifications such as SCCC from the Collegiate Strength and Conditioning Coaches Association (CSCCa) or USA Weightlifting (USAW) are preferred.
  • Minimum of two years of experience in strength and conditioning coaching at the collegiate level: Experience with NCAA Division III programs preferred
  • Strong communication and organizational skills.
  • Commitment to the mission and values of NCAA Division III athletics and Muskingum University.
  • Ability to perform and demonstrate various physical strength exercises and assist others in performing those exercises.
  • Requires frequent evening work and occasional travel.
