Department: Performance & Sports Science

Reports To: Head of Performance / Head Coach

Location: Al Ain Football Club Training Ground & Match Venues

Job Summary:

Al Ain Football Club is seeking a highly skilled and experienced First Team Performance Specialist to join our elite performance team. The successful candidate will be responsible for enhancing player physical conditioning, monitoring performance data, and implementing strategies to optimize endurance, strength, and agility. Working closely with sports scientists, strength & conditioning coaches, physiotherapists, and coaching staff, the Performance Specialist will play a key role in injury prevention, workload management, and peak performance preparation.

Key Responsibilities:

1. Player Performance Optimization

  • Design and implement individualized performance plans to enhance physical conditioning, agility, and endurance.
  • Monitor key performance indicators (KPIs) such as sprint speed, acceleration, heart rate variability, and workload.
  • Work closely with strength & conditioning coaches to improve player strength, power, and speed.
  • Assist in designing position-specific fitness programs for optimal match performance.

2. Performance Data Collection & Analysis

  • Use GPS tracking, heart rate monitoring, and motion analysis technology to track player movements and energy expenditure.
  • Provide data-driven insights to coaching staff to inform tactical decisions.
  • Analyze player fatigue levels, workload distribution, and recovery needs to prevent overtraining.
  • Utilize biomechanical assessments and functional movement screening to enhance efficiency and injury prevention.

3. Load Management & Injury Prevention

  • Develop and oversee load management strategies to minimize injury risks and ensure long-term player availability.
  • Collaborate with medical staff to implement return-to-play protocols for recovering players.
  • Integrate sports science, physiotherapy, and nutrition strategies into training programs for holistic player development.
  • Conduct regular strength and flexibility assessments to track player adaptation and progress.

4. Recovery & Regeneration Strategies

  • Design recovery programs tailored to match demands and individual player needs.
  • Implement cryotherapy, compression therapy, and hydration strategies to enhance post-match recovery.
  • Work with nutritionists and sports scientists to develop personalized recovery nutrition plans.
  • Monitor sleep, stress, and recovery biomarkers to optimize player readiness.

5. Matchday & Training Responsibilities

  • Assist in pre-match warm-ups and post-match cooldowns to enhance performance and recovery.
  • Provide real-time feedback on player workload and intensity levels during training and matches.
  • Support fitness testing, speed drills, and agility training sessions.
  • Work closely with the coaching team to ensure training intensity aligns with match demands.

6. Research & Innovation in Performance Training

  • Stay up to date with the latest advancements in performance science and football fitness training.
  • Introduce new training methodologies and performance technologies to optimize player development.
  • Collaborate with external researchers and industry experts to enhance club performance strategies.
  • Conduct workshops and educational sessions for players and coaching staff on performance enhancement.
