Job Description

The Carolina Hurricanes are seeking a qualified candidate to be the Strength and Conditioning Coach for their AHL affiliate, the Chicago Wolves. This position is responsible for designing, implementing, conducting, and monitoring strength and conditioning programs for professional hockey players and prospects.

Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Exercise Science, Kinesiology, Biomechanics, Health Sciences or related field
  • Current NSCA CSCS Certification
  • Minimum of two years as a full-time strength and conditioning coach working directly with hockey players
  • Current CPR/First Aid Certification required
  • Must also possess strong organizational and communications skills
  • Experience working with professional or collegiate athletes in a team setting. Must possess advanced skills in on-ice speed development, weight training techniques, and energy system development programs
  • Ability to travel to Canada (Up to Date Passport)
  • Ability to travel to Raleigh, NC for Development Camp, Main Camp, NHL Post-Season, and during the summer as requested by the organization

Experience required

  • Minimum of two years as a sports performance coach at the collegiate or professional level
  • Background with sports technology (for example, Firstbeat Heart Rate Monitoring, Load Management, GPS-based athlete tracking devices, Force Plates, cloud-based training software, Velocity-based training technology)

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Master’s Degree in a related field
  • Possess dual certification in Athletic Training (ATC) and/or Physical Therapy (PT). Strong consideration will be given to candidates who possess additional certification in athletic training (ATC) and/or physical therapy (PT).


  • Design and implement in-season and off-season strength and conditioning programs for the Chicago Wolves’ players and prospects of the Carolina Hurricanes. Strength and Conditioning programs must align with the organization’s programs as assigned by the Carolina Hurricanes Head Strength and Conditioning Coach.
  • Assist the Athletic Training staff in the development and implementation of reconditioning programs for injured athletes, and injury prevention programs for all players
  • Assist the Development staff in the design and implementation of remote strength and conditioning programs for prospects playing in leagues around the world
  • Communicate with prospects and their performance coaches regarding strength and conditioning programs
  • Assist the Head Strength and Conditioning Coach at the NHL Combine. Responsibilities include gathering data and creating reports for management
  • Assist the Head Strength and Conditioning Coach at Development Camp and Pre-Season Camp in Raleigh, NC
  • Participate in ongoing individual and group professional development activities
  • Collaborating with athletic training, sports nutrition, and sports psychology staff to provide comprehensive support for the players
