Job Description

Salary: £38,019 p.a pro-rata

The Opportunity

British Rowing and the UK Sports Institute have an exciting opportunity for a part-time Strength and Conditioning Coach (Women’s squad) working at the GB Rowing Team (GBRT) National Training Centre (NTC) in Caversham, Reading.
We are seeking to appoint someone who can work effectively as a key member of the Women’s coaching and support the team with expertise in developing athletes with world leading physical profiles. You will improve the rowing performance through the development, implementation, and evaluation of the S&C programmes that reflect scientific principles as they relate to adaptation, periodisation, peaking, tapering, and injury rehabilitation.
The GBRT has a phenomenal track record of performance at the highest levels of Olympic sport and is seeking an exceptional Strength and Conditioning Coach to form part of the core daily delivery team towards the LA 2028 and Brisbane 2032 Olympic Games.

Location:

British Rowing functions out of a bespoke NTC in Caversham (near Reading) where athletes can train both on the water and on land whilst receiving World Class Coaching and Support Services. Some of the gym sessions will also be conducted at the UKSI High-Performance Centre at the Bisham Abbey National Sports Centre (near Marlow). Due to the nature of the role, delivery will be in person to meet the needs of the sport.

Role requirements:

A typical week would be three weights and two core sessions, that are run from either from 11am to 3pm or from 2-5pm depending on the day of the week. There may be international travel for land-based training camps associated with this role. This will be up to 50 days spread throughout the year, generally in blocks of 13-16 days.

GBRT Vision:

A world-leading Olympic and Paralympic nation which inspires and creates opportunities for anyone capable of delivering or supporting success to realize their dreams regardless of background.

GBRT Mission:

To deliver a programme which consistently produces gold medal success and creates the environment where athletes and staff thrive.

British Rowing takes pride in the tradition of success that it has created through the development and performances of athletes on the world stage.

A snapshot of the role

This is an exciting opportunity to work within one of Great Britain’s most successful sporting teams. Reporting to the Head Coach (Women) and GBRT Strength and Conditioning lead you will have the opportunity to support the development of an integrated and periodised performance plan that meets the needs of individuals and the goals of the Women’s Olympic squad. As a key member of the core team, you will bring a willingness to integrate with the Women’s Sports Science and Medicine team including their ways of working.
For you to succeed you will bring enthusiasm, creativity and energy to the role and have a genuine desire to help athletes achieve their performance aspirations.
We are looking for an experienced and suitably qualified practitioner who can work collaboratively in a demanding performance environment within an interdisciplinary support team. It is important to be accessible, approachable, and visible in this role.
Previous experience within rowing is not essential but a passion to learn more about the sport is.
What makes joining British Rowing and the UKSI compelling?
This is your opportunity to work within one of Great Britain’s most successful sporting teams by shaping the future of the rowers looking to succeed at the Los Angeles Olympics in 2028. Not only will you be well supported within the GBRT NTC, but you will have technical leadership from UKSI S&C staff for your continued professional development.
The GBRT Sports Science and Medicine Team (SSSM) align our work to the GBRT “What it Takes to Win” model that has a holistic approach to developing people. The foundations lie in three main strands: Physical, Technical, and Psychological. There are interdisciplinary projects underpinning these in the following five key areas: Adapting, Available, Efficient, Thriving, and Developing.
