Department: Blackburn Rovers Women Football Club
Location: BRFC Academy/STC, Old Langho, Blackburn, BB6 8BA. Flexibility regarding location is required.
Reports to: Head of Performance
Hours of work: 30 hours per week plus any additional hours necessary for the performance of duties to be worked on days and at times agreed with your head of department. This will include evening and weekend work.
Contractual Status: Permanent
Job purpose: To deliver physiotherapy services to all players involved within the Women’s Football Department. To promote and protect the health and wellbeing of all players within the Ladies Department and to work within the code of conduct and good practice of the Chartered Society of Physiotherapy.
Duties and responsibilities:
To be committed to ensuring the safeguarding and welfare of all staff, players, spectators, customers and/or clients of the club;
Liaise with the Head of Performance to undertake and oversee the medical provision for Blackburn Rovers women;
Work according to Blackburn Rovers Women FC philosophy and values;
Assessment and treatment of all injuries necessary to all players;
Implementation and document the rehabilitation programmes from initial injury through to return to play;
Oversee neuro-musculoskeletal screening of players;
Manage the implementation of Individualised Injury Prevention Programme for squad members;
Organisation of cardiac screening and biomechanical/physiological screening when required;
Organisation of medical/first aid cover for all training nights and match days;
Provide injury reports/updates to the Head Coach and staff as required;
Liaise with coaching staff regarding return to play, pre-habilitation and on-going maintenance programmes for all players and where necessary;
Liaise with Club Doctor regarding player illnesses and treatment plans;
Be in attendance at all matches home and away;
Be responsible for ensuring all medical supplies are ordered and that there is access as and when required;
Update records on Women’s Performance System (WPS) for all inured players and those in treatment;
Complete all relevant FA forms for players on international duty;
Undertake relevant CPD to meet the demands of the role;
Attend weekly MDT meetings and contribute to the departmental strategy to ensure best practice and continuous improvements;
Liaise daily with sport scientist and coaches to ensure effective communication between departments;
Ensure appropriate injury mitigation and player care strategies are adopted, including but not limited to: screening, testing, player and squad interventions, player and coach education and growth-maturation based interventions; and
To support a performance culture to maximize player potential and ensure that a common and united message is delivered to all players at all times.
Skills Required:
A dynamic, confident communicator whilst able to adapt style and approach as and when required;
Ability to engage with businesses, coaches and players;
Attention to detail and excellent organisational skills are required along with a conscientious approach to all areas of work;
Flexible approach to work with a proven commitment to teamwork;
An ability to manage time effectively to achieve the expectations of the role.
Knowledge Required:
To have experience with working with female elite players;
Knowledge of safeguarding children and/or vulnerable groups;
Have a knowledge of player development within the female game; and
Have a knowledge and multiple player links for enhancing player recruitment.
Qualifications Required:
For a Sports Therapist: a graduate sports therapist who is a current member of SOST or BASRAT; or
For a Physiotherapist: a registered member of the Health Care Professions Council (HCPC)
Both a Sports Therapist and Physiotherapist should have an up to date Advanced Emergency Aid qualification which should be the FA ATMMiF course and should have adequate indemnity insurance.
