Job Description

Rams Rugby is seeking an experienced and proactive Head of Medical to lead and coordinate all medical provision across our senior performance programme.

This is a key leadership role within the rugby department, responsible for ensuring player welfare, injury management, medical governance, and alignment with performance staff in a competitive semi-professional environment.

The successful candidate will play a central role in creating a robust, professional, and athlete-centred medical programme that supports availability, performance, and long-term development.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Lead all medical provision for the senior performance programme (training & matchday), including First Team and Development Team
  • Oversee injury assessment, diagnosis, rehabilitation, and return-to-play processes
  • Coordinate and manage medical practitioners, including staffing and rotas for training and home and away fixtures
  • Act as the primary medical liaison with:
    • Director of Rugby & coaching staff
    • Strength & Conditioning department
    • External consultants and specialists
  • Maintain clear medical governance, documentation, and reporting standards
  • Provide regular injury and availability updates, including formal reporting to senior leadership / Board as required
  • Advise on player load, availability, and risk management
  • Ensure compliance with:
    • RFU medical standards
    • Safeguarding and duty-of-care requirements
  • Maintain the medical environment and processes to a professional standard
  • Support and encourage ongoing CPD within the medical team
