Are you passionate about developing the next generation of female football talent? We’re looking for an enthusiastic and driven Assistant AFLW Coach / Assistant Female Academy Coach to play a pivotal role across both our AFLW and Female Academy programs.
Working closely with the AFLW Senior Coach and Head of Academy, you’ll help deliver high-performance coaching programs that build technical excellence, tactical understanding, and the professional standards required to succeed at the elite level.
This is a unique opportunity to not only coach at the highest level of AFLW but contribute to a strong talent pathway, supporting athletes as they transition from Academy development into an elite environment.
Key responsibilities of the role include, but not limited to:
AFLW Program
- Work with the coaching team to deliver programs aligned with the Club’s game plan and coaching framework
- Deliver high-quality coaching and player development
- Contribute to AFLW game strategy and training execution
- Plan and run training sessions, skill development, and match preparation
- Provide clear, constructive feedback to enhance player and team performance
- Assist in monitoring player progress through performance metrics and development plans
- Collaborate with performance, medical, and wellbeing teams to optimise athlete outcomes
Female Academy Program
- Assist in designing and delivering age-appropriate development programs
- Support individual development plans, including tracking and feedback
- Deliver inclusive coaching tailored to diverse learning styles and backgrounds
- Contribute to talent identification and prepare athletes for elite pathways
- Engage with parents, community stakeholders, and program partners
- Promote professionalism, leadership and behaviours aligned with Brisbane Lions values.
About You
You are a passionate coach and leader who is committed to developing female athletes and creating high-quality learning environments.
- AFL Coaching Accreditation – minimum Level 2; Level 3 preferred
- State league coaching experience, or high-level talent pathway experience in any state.
- Understanding of the AFLW landscape
- Strong collaboration and communication skills
- Hold a current Blue Card (or ability to obtain)

This is a full time role and will work across AFLW and the Academy Programs. As such the hours are not your standard 9 – 5 and travel will be required through both programs.
