Job Description

Under the leadership of the Assistant Director of Athletics for Sports Medicine, the Athletic Trainer is responsible for assisting with the operations of all facets of the sports medicine program. This 10-month position involves administering proper care, prevention, and rehabilitation of athletic injuries for NCAA Division III student-athletes competing within Keuka College’s intercollegiate athletic teams. The Athletic Trainer will provide athletic training coverage for practices and events, both home and away (with travel as assigned), and assist with the preparticipation process and athletic medical clearance.

Essential Responsibilities

  • Administer proper care, prevention, and rehabilitation of athletic injuries for NCAA Div. III student-athletes that compete within Keuka College’s intercollegiate athletic teams.
  • Assist in administration of preparticipation, athletic medical clearance process and documentation.
  • Provide athletic training coverage of practices as well as home and away athletic events (travel as assigned).
  • Collaborate with strength & conditioning and mental health & wellness staff to provide holistic support to student-athletes.
  • In the absence of the head athletic trainer, the Athletic Trainers will have final jurisdiction over all athletic training decisions.
  • Supervise athletic training room, manage supplies, schedule student employees, document medical records, and assist with budgeting.
  • Assist in revision of appropriate handbooks and medical protocols.
  • Work closely with team physicians, outside medical personnel, and on-campus Health and Counseling services.
  • Effectively communicate with professional staff, coaching staff, and students.
  • Knowledge of and compliance with specific NCAA, Conference, and institutional rules that relate to this position.
  • Maintain a professional and courteous attitude and appearance towards co-workers, internal and external customers, representing Keuka College in a positive and professional manner. 
  • Demonstrate high standards of integrity by supporting the College’s mission, vision and values.
  • Maintain a visible presence on campus.
  • Maintain effective working relationships to ensure institution-wide teamwork.
  • Attend provided/necessary trainings and other meetings and committee assignments to support effectiveness within the position as required.
  • Maintain high regard for student privacy in accordance with the FERPA privacy policies and procedures.
  • Responsible for ensuring that assigned tasks are completed in compliance with various institutional and regulatory requirements.
  • Perform other functions as assigned by management.

Physical Requirements

  • Must be able to lift and carry 50 pounds
  • Must be able to work on your feet for an extended period of time
  • Evening and weekend hours required, in addition to potential early mornings and  holidays as required by the athletic schedule.   

Requirements

  • Masters degree required.
  • Certified in athletic training by the Board of Certification 
  • Current certification in First Aid, CPR / AED as required by the Board of Certification
  • New York State Licensure (or be eligible) required.
  • Valid driver’s license required.
  • Maintain and report continuing education units every two years as required by the Board of Certification
  • Ability to be sensitive to and respond to the needs and concerns of students, faculty, College staff and the public.
  • Ability to work under pressure with a high tolerance for interruptions, and the ability to work with diverse groups of people.
