Psychologist Work Placement

Department: Medical

Based at: Blackburn Rovers Academy, Brockhall Village, Old Langho, Blackburn BB6 8BA.

Reports to: Academy Psychologist

Placement length: 8 month work placement for the 2026/2027 football season (1st September 2026 – 31st May 2027).

Placement purpose: To assist and learn the day-to-day tasks of the psychology department to all academy players and key stakeholders.

Experience and development opportunities:

• To be committed to ensuring the safeguarding and welfare of all stakeholders, promoting their well-being whilst maintaining professional boundaries;
• To assist in the delivery of the Psychology Program to all academy players, predominately within the FP&YDP groups;
• To assist in the psychological profiling of academy players;
• Assist in the education of all players, parents and staff in terms of psychological development, mental health & well-being and performance;
• To assist and shadow the Lead Psychologist in creating, overseeing and delivering an academy psychology curriculum through informed practice and principles and promote a good psychology culture; and
• Develop skills and capabilities of academy players enabling them to deal with the demands of daily life, both inside and outside of football.

Skills and knowledge required:

• IT literate including Microsoft Word and Excel;
• Effective communication with internal and external stakeholders; and
• Knowledge of industry related software.

Qualifications required:

• At a recognised educational institution to be working towards a relevant psychology or sport psychology (or equivalent) degree at undergraduate or MSc level.
