Job Description

  • Coach elite NBL athletes and pursue a PhD simultaneously
  • New coaching era under Will Weaver and Markus Klusemann
  • Based in South Brisbane, QLD – purpose-built HP facility

The Brisbane Bullets, a premier NBL club committed to athlete health, performance, well-being, and continuous development, are seeking a Strength & Conditioning coach to join our fully integrated basketball operations team.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Design and deliver strength and conditioning programs tailored to elite basketball athletes
  • Monitor and optimize player performance, workload, and recovery strategies
  • Assist in injury prevention and return-to-play protocols in collaboration with medical staff
  • Collect, analyze, and interpret performance data to inform training decisions
  • Contribute to applied research aligned with a possibility of completing a PhD
  • Support game-day and training operations, including potential travel with the team

Qualifications and experience:

  • Honours or Master’s degree in Exercise Science, Sports Science, or related discipline (PhD eligibility required)
  • Accreditation (or working toward) as a Strength & Conditioning Coach (ASCA and/or CSCS)

Skills and working requirements

  • Committed to supporting athletes through strong programming, systems and processes
  • Experience working with elite or sub-elite athletes (basketball experience desirable)
  • Proficient with AMS and diagnostic, and rehabilitation technologies
  • Eager to integrate frontier AI into day-to-day workflows
  • Flexible availability, including extended hours; legally entitled to work in Australia
  • Strong interest in applied research and data-driven performance
  • Excellent communication, organization, and teamwork skills
  • Ability to balance academic and applied performance demands

Possible Research Component:

  • Undertake a PhD focused on strength & conditioning, athlete performance, or related field
  • Conduct research embedded within the Brisbane Bullets high-performance environment
  • Collaborate with academic supervisors and club staff
  • Publish findings in peer-reviewed journals and present at conferences
