Job Description

About the Role

Sydney Sports Academy is offering a paid 6-month Strength & Conditioning Internship Pathway for 3rd year Exercise & Sport Science students who are serious about coaching athletes.

This is not a standard internship.

This is a direct pathway into paid coaching employment, starting before you graduate, giving you real-world experience working with athletes across multiple sports while being mentored in a high-performance environment.

You’ll be working hands-on in athlete development sessions, learning how to coach speed, movement, strength, and performance on the field – not just theory, but applied coaching.

What This Opportunity Offers

  • Paid internship (6 months)
  • Employment pathway secured before graduation
  • 3 evenings per week coaching (field-based sessions)
  • Direct mentorship from Brandan Jones, owner of Sydney Sports Academy & NRL High Performance Specialist
  • Learn directly from a coach specialising in:
    • Speed & agility development
    • Strength & power application
    • Movement mechanics & athlete profiling
  • Exposure to athletes across multiple sports (youth to elite pathways)
  • Real coaching experience while completing your degree
  • A structured transition into a graduate S&C coaching role

The Pathway

  • Stage 1: 6-month paid internship (while in 3rd year)
  • Stage 2: Transition into a paid S&C coaching role upon graduation
  • Ongoing development and mentoring within the academy

Previous interns have successfully progressed into ongoing coaching roles while pursuing post-graduate studies.

Who We’re Looking For

  • Currently in 3rd year Exercise & Sport Science (or related degree)
  • Strong interest in Strength & Conditioning / athlete development
  • Wants to coach athletes – not just work in a gym setting
  • Available for minimum 3 evenings per week (4pm–8pm) Monday – Friday
  • Reliable, coachable, and willing to learn in a high-performance environment
  • Passion for sport and performance development

Why This Role Is Different

Most graduates finish their degree and struggle to find practical coaching opportunities.

This role puts you 6 months ahead, with:

  • Paid experience
  • Real athletes
  • Mentorship from a coach working in the high performance space
  • A clear pathway into employment

By the time you graduate, you’re already working in the industry.
