The Brisbane Lions are seeking a passionate and experienced Academy Head Coach (Female Program) to lead the identification, preparation and development of female talent within the Lions Academy pathway.
Working closely with the Head of Academy, this role will deliver a high-quality, athlete-centred program that aligns with the Lions Coaching Framework, the Club’s Female Talent Strategy and Long-Term Athlete Development (LTAD) principles. The successful candidate will create an inclusive and empowering environment that supports the performance and long-term development of emerging female footballers.
Key responsibilities of the role include, but not limited to:
- Lead the holistic development of female Academy athletes through individualised development planning, monitoring and progression.
- Design and deliver age-appropriate, evidence-based skill, physical and game development programs aligned with LTAD principles.
- Develop, mentor and support Academy coaches working within the female pathway.
- Collaborate with performance, medical and football staff to implement best-practice athlete development and injury prevention strategies.
- Contribute to state and national female talent programs as required.
- Lead and support talent identification processes across Queensland.
- Provide evidence-based talent insights to recruiting staff, including technical, tactical, physical and psychological profiles of Academy athletes.
- Work closely with the AFLW Senior Coach and Head of Academy to align the Academy game model with AFLW trends and elite pathways.
- Engage with players, parents, schools and community clubs to support athlete development.
- Promote professionalism, leadership and behaviours aligned with Brisbane Lions values.
About You
You are a passionate coach and leader who is committed to developing female athletes and creating high-quality learning environments.
- AFL Coaching Accreditation 2 minimum Level 2
- Experience coaching or managing school or junior sporting teams
- Understanding of the AFLW landscape
- Strong collaboration and communication skills
- Hold a current Blue Card (or ability to obtain)
