The Assistant Director of Strength and Conditioning plays a key supporting role in executing the Miami Marlins’ performance programs across all levels of the organization. Based in Jupiter, this position directly assists the Director with program oversight, staff support, administrative functions, and leading the development of streamlined operational sports science reporting systems to improve efficiency, accuracy, and decision-making across the department. In addition to carrying out responsibilities, the Assistant Director is expected to challenge and engage the Director in constructive discussion, ensuring decisions are well-rounded and serve the best interests of player development. This role requires a deep understanding of strength and conditioning principles, strong communication skills, and the ability to balance support with curiosity and critical thinking.
Key Responsibilities
Support & Program Assistance
- Assist the Director in designing, implementing, and refining strength, power, speed, and conditioning programs.
- Help ensure seamless integration of S&C programming with medical, sports science, and player development initiatives.
- Help assist in the hiring process of the strength and conditioning department.
Constructive Collaboration
- Serve as a trusted thought partner to the Director, providing perspective, feedback, and professional debate to ensure optimal player development strategies.
- Constructively challenge ideas to foster innovation, encourage creative solutions, and support well-informed decision-making.
- Help maintain alignment of performance programs with organizational goals and values.
Exposure & Active Role in Player Development
- Spend dedicated time in all areas of player development, from the Dominican Republic to Miami.
- Translate insights gained from all facets of player development back to Jupiter, reinforcing organizational alignment and strengthening overall player development strategies.
- Leverage MLB-level exposure as a dual opportunity: to advance professional growth and actively support the consistent implementation of innovation and continuity from the Dominican Republic to Miami.
Staff Support & Mentorship
- Assist in mentoring and developing affiliate strength and conditioning coaches under the guidance of the Director.
- Provide feedback and resources to promote consistency and professional growth across the department.
Performance Monitoring
- Support the Director in managing athlete monitoring systems, force plate testing, and data collection processes.
- Analyzing performance data and providing recommendations for programming adjustments.
Administrative Operations
- Aid in day-to-day administrative duties, including Concur expense reporting, budgeting support, and purchasing requests.
- Assist with scheduling, logistics, and internal reporting to streamline departmental operations.
Culture & Leadership
- Uphold and reinforce the organizational pillars of innovation, forward-thinking, and being a good teammate.
- Contribute to a collaborative and growth-focused culture, supporting both athletes and staff.
Qualifications
- Degree in Exercise Science, Kinesiology, Biomechanics, or related field (graduate degree preferred).
- Deep understanding of sports science principles and athlete monitoring systems (force plates, GPS, bar tracking, HRV,etc.).
- Proficiency with data processing and visualization (e.g., R, Python, SQL, Tableau, or similar) helpful but not necessary.
- Demonstrated ability to turn complex data into clear, actionable recommendations.
- Excellent communication skills and the ability to collaborate across technical, coaching, and medical teams.
- Minimum of 3-4 years of experience with strength and conditioning.
- Prior coaching experience welcome but not required; intellectual curiosity and applied competence are essential.
