Job Purpose / Description:
Leicester Tigers Rugby Club is seeking experienced, dedicated, and knowledgeable applicants for the position of First Team Physiotherapist. The successful applicant will have a special interest and evidenced successful track record in the management of elite athletes, in addition to experience working in the elite sport environment.
The successful candidate will be able to immediately add value to our forward-thinking and progressive High Performance support team, have a strong commitment to personal and professional development and be confident autonomously managing their own case load of senior professional rugby players.
Role Summary:
The physiotherapist will be responsible for contributing to all aspects of the physiotherapy service provision to the senior players of the Leicester Tigers Senior Team, with a bias towards physiotherapy systems development. To liaise and work with medical, athletic performance and coaching staff on all physiotherapy related issues within the Leicester Tigers squad.
Key Responsibilities:
- Ensure accurate and effective assessment, diagnosis, treatment and management of injured senior players
- Lead and coach detailed injury management programs & return to play schedules for players in consultation with the Lead Club Doctor and the Medical Lead.
- Organise daily and weekly rehabilitation schedules, collaborate closely with the other members of the performance and coaching team to contribute to the rehabilitation, reconditioning and training integration of injured athletes in your care.
- Ensure timely communication with the Medical Lead regarding the management of all injured players in your care and all aspects of systems development.
- Work and communicate closely with all other members of the medical team, across all aspects of the programme.
- Provide training and match day physiotherapy cover to the Senior squad.
- Contribute to entry and screening medicals as may be required but the Medical Lead.
- Liaise closely with the Medical Lead regarding assessment findings and treatment for the players, injury status and progress daily.
- Maintain a good working relationship with all key personnel, colleagues and players inside the organisation as well as outside the organisation.
- To keep up to date with current best practices, maintain CPD and take an active role in the departments CPD programme with a bias towards innovations and physiotherapy systems development.
- To take an active role in the department’s mentorship programme.
- Assist in keeping accurate and detailed records of all injuries (training and match) including type, frequency and games missed, in accordance with the standards set by the CSP and HCPC.
- To carry out all other duties that may be required by management and are within the post-holders’ capabilities.
Education & Professional Qualifications:
Essential
- BSc in Physiotherapy (other similar qualifications will be considered)
- Membership of the Health Care Professionals Council and Chartered Society of Physiotherapy (or similar).
- Pre-Hospital Immediate Care in Sport Level 3, or the ability to obtain.
Desirable:
- MSc in Sports Physiotherapy, or similar performance related field.
Experience
Essential
- Significant experience working in professional sport
- Excellent communication skills.
- Excellent interpersonal skills and the ability to develop credible and effective working relationships.
- The ability to work effectively within a professional sports team environment.
Desirable:
- Significant experience working in professional rugby.
- Significant experience working in professional sport.
- Evidence in the delivery of specific management of elite athletes.
- Evidence of working closely with other disciplines within a high-performance sports organisation such as Athletic Performance, Sports Science, Sports Analysis, Performance Nutritionists and Team Management.
