The Role

The successful applicant will be responsible for the delivery of industry leading strength and conditioning programmes for all first team players. Working alongside the Head of Strength and Conditioning, within the first team sports science department, the role requires the design and delivery of various pre-training, post-training and reconditioning gym-based sessions, applying scientific principles to aid in enhancing physical performance, athletic development and successful return from injury.

This role will have various key elements to it, these being:

  • In collaboration with the 1st Team Reconditioning Coach, design and deliver Strength and Conditioning programmes for players returning from injury.
  • Lead the physical programming for the 1st Team Goalkeepers
  • A focus on our young 1st Team Players to maximise their physical potential.
  • Oversee the physical programme of professional loanees

Further aspects to the role are to contribute to the research and development of the sports science and medical department through attendance and delivery of CPD, and providing match day sports science support as required. As a result, the role requires an individual who is able to perform such hours as necessary to complete their roles and responsibilities, which will require travel and the working of unsociable hours including weekends and bank holidays.

About you

  • Contribute to the collection and presentation of gym-based pre-season testing.
  • Contribute to the collection and presentation of gym-based in-season monitoring.
  • Oversee the design of individual performance programs tailored to first team players based on pre-season screening, force/velocity profiling and injury history.
  • Contribute to the design and delivery of daily pre-training gym sessions in conjunction with the philosophy of the sports science department and coaching staff.
  • Lead the design of the 1st Team Goalkeepers physical programme.
  • Oversee the physical programme of professional players who are out on loan.
  • Assist in the delivery of on-field physical warm-ups.
  • In collaboration with the First Team Reconditioning Coach, plan and implement industry leading strength and conditioning programs for players returning from injury.
  • Oversee the maintenance of first team gyms, ensuring all equipment is in the highest working order.
  • Contribute to the ongoing development of the sports science and medical department through attending and delivering CPD events.
  • Maintain accurate records of players’ gym-based loading, generating weekly reports for the benefit of the sports science and medical department.

What you will bring

Qualifications

  • BSc in a Sport Science/Strength & Conditioning discipline (essential).
  • MSc in a Strength and Conditioning discipline (essential).
  • UKSCA/CSCS Accreditation or equivalent (essential).
  • EXOS Performance Mentorship (desirable, or ability to achieve within 6 months).
  • BASES Accreditation (desirable).

Experience

  • Ability to demonstrate an extensive portfolio of working with elite athletes (essential).
  • Experienced in strength and conditioning delivery in elite sport (essential).
  • Experience delivering on-field warm-ups (essential).
  • Experience of delivery of strength and conditioning programs to professional footballers (desirable).

Skills and Abilities

  • Excellent knowledge of the physiology of training, in particular within football.
  • Ability to interact effectively with all members of a multi-disciplinary team.
  • Ability to implement innovative ideas and influence athlete and coach plans.
  • Forward thinking, with the ability to anticipate and plan for all eventualities.
  • Strong team ethos, with the ability to build strong professional relationships with coaching and playing staff.
  • Ability to adapt and change training programs and plans safely and effectively.
  • Excellent IT skills.
