Physiotherapist / Sports Therapist

Club training ground and match venues (home and away)

Role Overview

The physiotherapist will be responsible for providing high quality injury management, pitch side care and rehabilitation for the Bishop’s Stortford RFC 1st and 2nd team squad members who compete in National League 1 and Herts Counties 1.

The role would include attendance at weekly training sessions and match days, ensuring players receive appropriate assessment, treatment and return to play support.

Key Responsibilities

Injury Assessment & Treatment

  • Assess, diagnose, and treat musculoskeletal injuries sustained during training and matches
  • Implement evidence-based treatment and rehabilitation programmes

Match Day Medical Cover

  • Provide pitch-side first aid and emergency management during matches
  • Manage acute injuries including concussion protocols in line RFU guidelines
  • Ensure medical equipment and emergency action plans are prepared and implemented

Player Rehabilitation

  • Design and deliver individual rehabilitation programmes
  • Work closely with strength and conditioning staff to progress player’s rehabilitation programmes

Injury Prevention

  • Assist in implementing injury prevention strategies

Training & Match Commitments

  • Attendance at weekly team training sessions (evenings)
  • Match day cover for selected fixtures

Qualifications

Essential Qualifications

  • Degree in Physiotherapy or Sports Therapy
  • HCPC registration (for Physiotherapists) or membership with The Society of Sports Therapists / Sports Therapy Association (for Sports Therapists)
  • Valid Pitch-Side First Aid qualification (i.e. PHICIS L2/3)
  • Professional indemnity insurance

Desirable Qualifications

  • Previous experience working within rugby union or contact sports
  • Strength and conditioning knowledge

Salary

  • Sessional rate or match-day fee (dependent on experience)
