Department: Medical & Sports Science

Reports To: Head of Performance / Head of Medical

Location: Al Ain Football Club Training Ground & Match Venues

Job Summary:

Al Ain Football Club is seeking a highly skilled and experienced First Team Sports Scientist to join our high-performance team. The successful candidate will be responsible for monitoring, analyzing, and optimizing player performance, fitness, and recovery using cutting-edge sports science techniques. Working closely with coaches, physiotherapists, and strength & conditioning staff, the sports scientist will play a critical role in injury prevention, workload management, and enhancing player endurance and agility.

Key Responsibilities:

1. Performance Monitoring & Data Analysis

  • Collect and analyze GPS and heart rate data to monitor player workload, intensity, and fatigue levels.
  • Use biomechanical assessments to track player movements and identify injury risks.
  • Monitor neuromuscular fatigue and strength levels to optimize recovery strategies.
  • Work with coaching staff to interpret performance data and provide actionable insights.

2. Injury Prevention & Load Management

  • Develop injury prevention programs based on player biomechanics and workload data.
  • Implement load management strategies to prevent overtraining and reduce soft tissue injuries.
  • Work closely with medical staff to integrate rehabilitation data into training plans.
  • Conduct screening tests and functional movement analysis to identify injury-prone players.

3. Fitness & Strength Optimization

  • Design and implement individualized fitness programs to improve endurance, agility, and speed.
  • Use force plates, sprint profiling, and jump assessments to enhance player explosiveness.
  • Monitor body composition changes and provide recommendations for physical conditioning.
  • Assist in altitude and heat acclimatization programs for players competing in different conditions.

4. Recovery & Regeneration Strategies

  • Develop recovery protocols using hydrotherapy, cryotherapy, and compression therapy.
  • Implement sleep monitoring and nutritional strategies for enhanced recovery.
  • Use blood lactate testing and metabolic profiling to track player recovery efficiency.
  • Educate players on recovery techniques such as active recovery and foam rolling.

5. Matchday & Training Responsibilities

  • Monitor live performance data during matches and provide in-game insights to coaching staff.
  • Set up GPS and heart rate monitoring equipment before training sessions and games.
  • Work with the coaching team to optimize training drills based on physiological demands.
  • Support warm-up and cool-down protocols to enhance player readiness and recovery.

6. Research & Innovation in Sports Science

  • Stay updated with latest advancements in sports science technology and methodologies.
  • Introduce new training techniques and equipment to enhance player performance.
  • Collaborate with research institutions on cutting-edge sports science projects.
  • Lead workshops to educate players and staff on sports science principles.
