Job Description

The physical foundation of a new club. Yours to build from scratch.

The Tasmania Jewels are the WNBL’s first expansion team, and we are building our high-performance programme from the ground up. There is no inherited system to maintain. No programme to slot into. What gets built here in the next few months will define how this club competes for years.

This role is the physical foundation of that work. You design the programmes, drive the monitoring, and make sure every athlete arrives at game day stronger and more resilient than the week before.

About Us

Tasmania JackJumpers are one-of-ten basketball clubs that form the National Basketball League (NBL) competition. Since launching in 2021, our strong cultural foundations and passionate fan base have led to unprecedented success on and off the court. In everything the JackJumpers do, we represent the state of Tasmania with pride. On the court, in the stands and in the community.

Tasmania Jewels are the newest addition to the WNBL, proudly becoming the league’s first expansion licence and ninth team. Built on Tasmania’s hallmark qualities of resilience, unity, and heart, the Jewels reflect the spirit of the island both on and off the court. With a deep commitment to our community and a clear vision for excellence, the Jewels are committed to establishing a strong culture that inspires players, fans, and future generations.

The Role

You own the physical preparation of the playing group across a full WNBL season.

Day to day, you will be:

  • Design and deliver personalised S&C programmes for each athlete, grounded in evidence and adapted as the season progresses
  • Administer testing protocols and translate the data into clear, actionable development plans for every player
  • Run pre-game preparation, warm-up protocols and post-game recovery routines for home and away fixtures
  • Monitor each athlete continuously and maintain accurate longitudinal records that inform planning across the HP team
  • Source and coordinate high-performance service providers in consultation with the Head Coach
  • Contribute to a high-performance culture that reflects the MARCH values in how it operates every day
  • Collaborate closely with the physiotherapy team, coaching staff and broader HP group so athletes receive joined- up support

You are based at the High-Performance Training Centre in Kingston. The role includes interstate travel across the season, with evening and weekend availability required throughout.

Who We’re Looking For

We are looking for someone who brings scientific rigour and genuine care for the athletes they work with – in equal measure.

You are the right fit if you:

  • Hold a Bachelor of Exercise Science, Sport Science or equivalent
  • Have experience in a professional or high-performance sport environment
  • Design with intention, test with rigour and adjust without ego
  • Communicate clearly with coaches, physios, athletes and service providers
  • Stay composed under pressure and solve complexity without slowing down
  • Can obtain and maintain a Tasmanian Working with Vulnerable People check

Experience working with professional female athletes would be highly valued. ASCA accreditation or equivalent strengthens your application. So does experience in a greenfield environment where you have built a programme rather than inherited one.

And the non-negotiables – you carry the MARCH values naturally. You are mindful of the impact you have, authentic in your approach, relentless in your pursuit of improvement, connected to everyone around you, and genuinely humble about the privilege of this work.

Must Have Values

These are not aspirational. They are the minimum we expect from everyone at the Jewels.

Mindful – We respect each other, our fans, our stakeholders, our property, our facilities and our competitors.

Authentic – We represent the Tasmanian community – underestimated, hard working, gritty.

Relentless – We embrace challenges, fight through adversity and grit and grind to the final buzzer.

Connected – We are connected as one club – Front Office, High Performance Team and players all aligned working together and for each other.

Humble – We appreciate and understand it is a privilege to do what we do.

If this is the kind of role you have been waiting for – a blank canvas, an elite environment, a community that backs its own – we would love to hear from you. Send through your CV and a brief note on what draws you to the Jewels.

To be considered for this role, please briefly address the following in your cover letter:

  • What best describes your right to work in Australia?
  • How many years’ experience do you have as a Strength and Conditioning Coach?
  • Have you completed a qualification in fitness?
  • What’s your expected annual base salary?
  • How much notice are you required to give your current employer?
  • Do you hold a Bachelor of Exercise Science, Sport Science or equivalent qualification?
  • Do you have experience working in a professional or high-performance sport environment?
  • Are you able to obtain a Tasmanian Working with Vulnerable People check?
